Zelenskyy commented, "We can already see that Moscow is rushing to resume dialogue as soon as it learns of cruise missiles." These remarks referred to recent musings about supplying long-range weapons to the Ukrainian military.

An ex- US state department official, a foreign policy expert, observed, "Putin is attempting to derail the momentum toward increased sanctions on Russia." Fried continued, "The outcome will become clear tomorrow, but the chances of moving toward a ceasefire by pressuring Moscow to engage sincerely seem to have diminished."

The development came after Trump had in recent days been hardening his language toward Moscow until Thursday's call with Putin, which the Russian government described as "highly frank and trustful."

EU Fuel Restrictions and Market Effects

EU authorities have set a requirement for energy suppliers into the European Union to prove their fuels are not sourced from Russian oil, according to a official guideline published on Thursday. This measure is included in the European Union's upcoming ban on purchases of fuels processed from Russian crude, which forms part of its latest sanctions package against Moscow over its war in Ukraine.

Market experts observed that trading activity appeared to be considering the possible reduction of Indian purchases of Russian oil. Some oil processors in India are preparing to cut purchases from Russia, with projections of a gradual decrease, as reported by sources familiar with the situation.

"This is a favorable turn for the crude oil price as it would remove a major customer of Russian oil," said Tony Sycamore, adding that crude values were stable on Thursday.

Military Developments and Energy Strikes

A large-scale Russian unmanned aircraft and rocket assault targeted gas facilities in eastern Ukraine on the same day, resulting in disruptions in multiple areas. Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces deployed numerous of unmanned vehicles and many of missiles, along with aerial munitions.

"This autumn, the Russians use every single day to strike at our power facilities," declared Ukraine's president, noting that strikes affected the areas of Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, northeastern Ukraine and western Ukraine.

Global Political Reactions

Ukraine's envoy to the United States, the Ukrainian ambassador, asserted that Moscow showed its real attitude to negotiations through the "terror" of such strikes. "Russia yet again chose missiles over talks, making this attack into a direct setback to current diplomatic initiatives," she said.

Meanwhile, the EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, stated that the European Union had no choice but to build up defensive systems against Russian threats. She revealed a "plan" to get ready for possible conflict by 2030, including a new anti-drone system to be fully operational by the 2027 deadline.

This initiative, dubbed the "European drone defence initiative," is expected to begin working in its first phase by the end of 2026 and be fully functioning by the end of 2027. EU authorities hopes to obtain the support of EU leaders at a meeting in the coming days.
