Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Shot Military Members to the Presidential Residence
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Devastating Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed the press. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Community members gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to support law enforcement in the capital.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was kind, caring and always willing to support those in need.”
Service details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the government to pause asylum applications and cease providing visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi told the program that she also intended to meet with the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with excellence, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
