Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not Real Supporters'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Tension on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "they can't be true Spurs fans" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth Premier League at home defeat of 2025.
However the main topic of discussion was the visitors' second goal when the keeper gave away possession well outside his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.
But, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
King laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six yards.
Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.
A particular of those jeering episodes really angered the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans reportedly booed the incident and jeered following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Dane stated regarding the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be true Spurs supporters that do that. Alright jeering after the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second period performance.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the next score was "completely avoidable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the role Vicario is playing. He's a excellent squad member, he is a true figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game
Italy national team the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.
He said following the game that he had to take the feedback.
"That score was a mistake of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.
"The intent was to kick the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."
He said being booed "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It is on the team to remain increasingly calm, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad defeat and it is tough to take."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of Vicario's error, it was not an easy goal for Wilson to convert.
In fact it was the second longest-range top division score of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.
Wilson said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open net to target.
Ten moments elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was 5 moments after the clearance.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for a long time," he remarked.
"It amazed me none of the back four went back to the line. When none of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked a bit.
"Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was solely about trying to achieve the right connection and get it on target. I had a positive sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Appears to Work Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank
Although the keeper's mistake dominated coverage, this was an all-round bad performance for Tottenham to continue their home struggles.
This was their 10th at home loss of the year in the league, a shared team statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
The side still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to come before the close of the season.
Only one of those victories have occurred after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said the boss.
"During in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome puts us in a place where we have suffered another match. Every game has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The second half was much better and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."
Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.
Furthermore they are recording 9.5 shots and three point two shots on target per match in the Premier League – their lowest averages on record in a one campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the stick," Murphy said. "He has taken a prestigious job at a huge football club with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
