Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his future after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with results so bad.”
He stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
