Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed murders, double-crosses, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced all suspense.

However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.

Out of 19 contestants, only five remained: Deceivers and loyal players competing for the winnings.

Before long, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.

In the end, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a shocking result that broke the internet and made him tearful.

"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he declared, revealing to the other players that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."

"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."

Social media immediately exploded with the news. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," commented a viewer.

"There could not have been a more iconic ending," wrote a different person, while a third described it as "the TV moment of the year."

The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep the entire winnings, with the final pot amounting to £87,500.

Warning! Watch the moment The Celebrity Traitors comes to a thrilling ending

Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the series.

But his win still left the nation surprised, according to industry observers.

"The thought of him, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."

During follow-up conversations, fellow players summed up why no one had truly doubted him.

"He might have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," a player said.

"Most people didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate someone who is so loveable?" questioned another celebrity.

The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his time on the show.

"I want to participate once more... I doubt it would work a second time!"

Thursday evening's installment was extended to 70 minutes on television. It had an unusual opening than usual, as every celebrity were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.

Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as we recapped key scenes from each of the finalists' experience in the game.

True to form, Alan Carr provided some of the most memorable lines.

"To be honest, I started this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've thrown some really good friends under the bus, I've eliminated national treasures in plain sight. Apparently I'm a better liar and traitor than I thought."

Meanwhile, a different player commented that being in the final was "significantly more pressure than competing with a national team", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have lasted this long.

Early on in the episode, various contestants seemed to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the castle, replacing the previously eliminated fashionable contestant.

Carr emerged at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.

But he was out-jacketted by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.

Following this was the competition, with the remaining contestants getting on board a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.

This task involved destroying portraits of eliminated players. Spare a thought for one participant who was hit in the head THREE times by the lid of a substantial container.

Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.

Two traitors made a pact in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," said one, while the other simply laughed.

And one adhered to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.

The last deceiver looked like he was in significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."

Social media and onlookers were equally disappointed.

"I hoped against that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.

"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," wrote a different viewer.

But there was little opportunity to focus on their elimination. Before long, the game reached the endgame - this being what we were really all here for.

The final four gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance broke down, just when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.

One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.

"It hurts to be betrayed last minute like that," remarked the ousted contestant. Later, it was revealed that when they message, the betrayed player calls the other as a traitor.

Finally, only three contestants remained in the game: the last participants.

One player, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the competition. So did another, and everything depended on the third, who did the same - resulting in the deceiver emerged victorious.

According to commentators, the moment where remaining contestants comforted the champion was "compelling television". "I predict it will be in the running for memorable moment at next year's awards," they said.

Happily, the champion soon recovered from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate his victory.

"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and here I am a winner," the winner said.

And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by reaching over the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.

"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.

The last few weeks of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes surprising incidents may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually all happen. And we will miss it.
